polishing!

I'll have my final polishing pass on the animation done this weekend. until then, here's a sneak peek at my alterations I made to the character's appearance, as well as the additional scene elements I quickly modeled to give a more complete feeling to the scene/layout.
ideally the final render would be b&w to simulate that film noir feeling I want the scene to have, but lighting/rendering are -pardon the pun- a dark art to me.

and now for something completely different...

On new year's eve I had an opportunity to perform one of Monty Python's most well-known routines, the Dead Parrot sketch. We only decided on this half-a-month before the performance date, and thus only got to rehearse it twice, but i think it turned out alright all this considered. I hope you'll agree :-) p.s. I'm the nut in the moustache...

Back to the animator's desk!

classes begin again this week for my animation classes, so here's a bit of what I'm working on instead of doing the comics you came here to see...

these are poses meant to hit a couple of key facial expressions in the scene I'm currently animating:

The main physical movements are pretty much done, and now we're moving on to facial animation...you can see the animation sans the facial expressions here:

and the reference video I based it on here (number 5):

when it's all done (in 3 weeks!!!) I'll post the final version...

It is Yeti December Yet!

Here's another Yeti-themed scene for your enjoyment this fine wintry December!

I imagine he's probably saying something like "why on earth would people want to come down here to Florida for the winter?" to his friend, the creature from the black lagoon.

And here is the progression on this picture from intial rough doodle-sketch to final inks:

1st a thumbnail on a scrap of paper I had handy at work, which has its own simple charm to it-

Then, a full-sized rough draft to get the forms on the page how i wanted them-

Then a cleaned-up sketch, working out the details-

and the final inked version, which i then scanned and colored in photoshop-

Yeti December is not yet over!!! If you get some free time over the holidays, draw your own concept of what the Abominable Snowman is like, and Share it with everyone over at the blog of the man known only as Hat!

Yeti Again!

Yeti December is outta control...but that's a good thing.

I have found myself unable to resist the impulse to draw the mysterious Musk Ape on any white surface available, even when I'm supposed to be working on something else...

You too can help spread the magic of Yeti December! As you slowly succumb to the power of the Bumble, and the urge to draw a Sasquatch of your own becomes Nigh Unstoppable, share the results with the world, and specifically, send a link to your art, no matter how Abominable you think your talent is, to the blog of The Hat!
