mangy

I got to do some painting this wednesday morning for the christmas service, on the stone wall of this manger scene. With 3 colors to choose from(black, white, and brown), and only using a 3-inch and a 1.5 inch brush, it proved a small challenge, but after about an hour and a half or so of work, it turned out okay.

Benny Jazzes it Up!

While i was at my brother's Junior High Christmas Band Concert i kept myself and my smallest brother entertained by drawing various music-related pictures. This is Benny the Ogre on trumpet.
And this is loosely based on the director of the bands. extremely loosely.
I drew other pictures, but these are the best of the bunch.

Thanksgiving Comes Before Christmas

As hearts still pound
From Trick-or-Treat
We hear a sound
Both glad and sweet

The carols swell;
Joy's everwhere
As vendors sell
Their Christmas fare

We all prepare
To give and get
And do not care
It's not time yet

Although December's
Still a month away
No one remembers
Thanksgiving Day

Give thanks when you
Still have got naught
As well as when you
Receive a lot;

Give thanks before
Blessing's received
And be no more
By greed deceived

For when you do
The Lord will give
His Joy to you
Each day you live.

Benny the Ogre

a lot of my coolest looking drawings start with a doodle. it is hard for me to believe that my friend benny here started out as just the curly-que that now forms the general shape of his face.

When it Reins it Pours...

"well, dadgum! looks like another dadblasted bridle shower!"

I didn't really take the time to do a nice polished drawing of this- i just kind of made a quick sketch much as one jots down a note or an idea. Then i slapped on some color to get an idea what it could look like...

Viking Origins of Snow White Uncovered!

Archaelologists digging in Norway uncovered runes relating a tale remarkably similar to the fairy tale we call Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. the names are different, including (from left to right in the example) Rolf the Vomiter, Snotti the runny-nosed, Hariflak the dandruffy, and Snorri the sleeper; not pictured were other dwarves with such names as Derrik the Oily-Skinned, Bumpiskin the Warty, and more, equally grotesque names. Thank goodness for the French way of taming the old Viking vulgarity to get to the root of a beautiful story.
In the Viking runes just uncovered, Snow White's step-mother is killed much more brutally, being pushed to her death by the seven dwarves, and impaled on a sharp rock, with blood and guts spilling all over.

big bag

Inspiration came in the form of food. On the kitchen table currently reclines an open bag of chips big enough to choke a horse, or a small buffalo; this bag inspired the drawing you see here; it is on a lined sheet of loose-leaf, because it was the closest piece of paper i could find.

just a cool design?

I just KNOW there is someone out there who will try to read more into this than there was WRITTEN into it. Some Pseudo-art Afficianado is probably looking at it right now, saying, "Well, ah, clearly the light-colored hand represents God, and the darker one is Man, who though made in the image of God is stained with sin. The first layer of black is the Darkness of the world, the second set of wavy layers represents the waves of uncertaintly in which we are all drowning, the third layer represents the tangled maze in which we lose our way as we try to find our way out of the darkness. the purple is the power of God that envelopes us when we take his hand..." etc, etc, etc.
The truth is, I just thought I'd make a cool design. think what you like, though I suppose.

My Left...Hand

Often, when looking for something to draw, I just draw the first thing I see that is interesting. My hands are always...well, on hand, so I often draw them. Being Left handed, it is not often that I draw my left hand. It is rather complicated to draw and "pose" at the same time, unless i were to draw it with my right hand (not really a good idea- i've done it twice, and it turned out okay, but not my best). This is a rare example of the results when I take that extra effort. My drawings of my right hand are better.

Beat this, Jim Davis!

Once upon a time, there was a young artist who came up with an idea for a comic strip. No, he didn't take his clothes off. he drew a dog, a cat, and their master (not shown). and then he did one better and added a rat. He called it Gumper's Gang. He only ever drew 4 strips, and they were not even very funny, which means that it can easily compete with the Garfield comic strip; just keep running the same 4 gags, drawing the cute characters in different poses every once in a while, and people will love it, and buy all the merchandise related to it, and even watch the lame live-action movie based on it, and get rich and famous for doing nothing but make a couple of neat-looking drawings.
This guy was me, though, so the odds of "Rich and Famous" coming to pass as a result of this drawing are slim-to-nothing.

huh? what fur?

so this guy comes up to me, all covered in fur, with a big shaggy tail sticking out of his pants. I asked him why he was all covered with fur, with a big tail and sharp pointy teeth and long snout, and he just stood there, staring at me blankly as he said,"what are you talking about?"
That was my encounter with The UnawareWolf.
